
Die durch Offshore-Windkraftanlagen in der Europäischen Union (EU) erzeugte elektrische Leistung stieg 2010 um 883 Megawatt (MW) an, was 51% mehr als im Vorjahr entspricht, so dass sich die Gesamtkapazität dieser Anlagen auf 2 964 MW belief.
Laut einer Mitteilung der Europäischen Vereinigung für Windenergie (EWEA) wurden im vergangenen Jahr insgesamt 308 neue Turbinen in neun Offshore-Windparks installiert, die Strom im Wert von 2,6 Mrd. EUR erzeugen.
Insgesamt belaufen sich alle Offshore-Windanlagen, wie sie auch Offshore-Anlagen genannt werden, in der EU auf insgesamt 1.136 Turbinen, die 11,5 Terawattstunden (TWh) erzeugen.
Diese Anlagen verfügen über eine ausreichende Kapazität, um etwa 2,9 Millionen Haushalte mit Strom zu versorgen, was den Städten Berlin und Brüssel zusammen entspricht.
Die WEA hofft, dass bis 2011 in der gesamten EU zwischen 1.000 und 1.500 MW dieser Art erneuerbarer Energien vollständig miteinander verbunden werden.
Derzeit sind auch zehn neue Anlagen mit insgesamt 3.000 MW im Bau, die in Zukunft die derzeitige installierte Kapazität der 45 Anlagen verdoppeln werden, zu denen mehrere genehmigte, aber noch nicht begonnene Projekte hinzukommen müssen und die weitere 19.000 MW umfassen könnten.
